The idea if you don't know already is to superimpose yourself or some other subject in another location.

I wish someone showed me how to do this earlier. Basically, all you do is paint your wall green. "Chroma green" to be exact, just google it and you'll see what I mean. Like $40 for a can of paint.

If you want to make a green screen yourself, then Buy two or three lights, that'll run around $100. Heck, you can get a full "kit" and theyll send you the lights and a portable green screen for $150.00

Then put the camera on a tripod. It's important that you keep the camera still for the shot. Its ok to have multiple angles, in fact, I hope you do! But move the tripod everytime you want to do a new one.

The reason for this, is because your background needs to be fixed. if you move too much with the camera, you'll make it look like that scene when Mickey and Mallory are in the get away cop chase at the beginning of Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers. Remember that?

I mean, thats a cool effect but just remember, if you want the camera to move, record or motion your background to move in same or opposite direction.

Again, I didn't mean to make it sound like you always need to fix your camera, but it really does suck when the background looks like its moving with the camera. Try it, you'll see what Im saying.

Next, Turn the lights on and act out, record whatever right in front of the camera, with the greenscreen behind you.

After you are done recording, you'll import the video into Imovie, Final Cut pro, Avid or some other type of editor, then click on "effects" and do "Chroma Keyer" or Chroma and take out the green.

Yes, if your shirt is green, your body will dissappear. If there is a green circle on your face, when you take the green out your face will have a hole in it.

So basically, dont wear green.

If you want to dress up like a marijuana leaf and dance around, then use a blue screen and take the blue out instead, etc.

After you adjust the color and the filters to take out every spec of green, without taking too much off your subject. (Hair is tricky) then soften the edges.

Thats about it! Experiment with your settings and memorize the best combinations and settings.
